Hello my lovelies!!

Summertime is here!!!! :) Yay! Now if the rain would just stop it would be fantastic...

Today I have five causes for celebration:

1. I finished my exams yesterday and will be graduating in a few weeks!!

2. This morning I got confirmation of my place on a Masters programme for next year

3. Poppy FINALLY seems to be getting the hang of NOT going to the toilet in the house. This could have happened ages ago but I was so focused on exams I never really noticed til today..

4. J. Crew, one of my favourite US brands is going to be available on Net-A-Porter soon! Yaya!

This dress and these shoes are first on my list ;-)

5. And... Forever 21(another US fave!) are opening their first European store and... its in Dublin!! Can you say excited??

I LOVE the vintage inspired hair accessories they've been rocking lately. Fingers crossed they make it to the Dublin store!

Dear Mr Grossman,

Whilst I do most enjoy the happiness cunningly disguised as a korma sauce I really wish you would rectify the following issues:

1. Why must all jars be childproof to an extent that I can still see jar shaped circles on my hand long after the food has been eaten??

2. Seriously the shape of the jar is a pain in the royal proverbial:

I have to use a teaspoon to get the sauce out!!!

Alas, I will forgive you. Just this once. Mainly because you've got unfortunate surname and those so ridiculous they're funny glasses make it almost impossible to stay mad for very long.

The Wanderer Returns

Ok so I haven't actually been wandering... In fact, I've been quite stationary for this whole time.

Evening dear friends!!

Oh how good it is to be back at last! I have missed blogland(and its inhabitants) very, very much. To say the past two months have been a rollercoaster would be quite an understatement...

Firstly I'd like to thank you all for your wonderfully sweet comments on my previous few (mostly full of sickness) posts. They were a joy to read upon my release from hospital hell
Secondly, big hello and welcome to the new followers I've acquired over the past few weeks! I promise I will get back to proper blogging now =)

So where have I been? And what have I been up to??

Not much to be perfectly honest :) As JR explains here I have been quite poorly but am thankfully now on the mend. Big thank you to Mr JR for postig on my behalf and also for referring to me as 'witty, charming and cute'- major brownie points for you, Sir!!

Swine flu was hell. I don't think I need to go into any more detail there.. I think the confinement or 'conswinement'(geddit? geddit? swine flu+confinement=conswinement.. Har Har I'm SO funny) was the worst part though. Mind numbingly boring =(
Seriously ick.

I had had a small chest infection before the swine flu which steadily got worse and worse and worse until...

I found myself in hospital being investigated for all manners of nastiness which I won't depress anyone with here. Lets just say it wasn't nice. And in the end it turned out to be nothing at all! So finally after 19 long and torturous days I got out...

HALLELUJAH!!!

So for the past little while, myself and Mr JR have been trying to sort out the organised chaos we call life. Its mostly been spent either visiting friends or cleaning our apartment... In all his worrying, poor dear, Mr JR apparently forgot how to wash stuff. Hmmmp.. Typical man =P

Safe to say we are back into the hum of ordinary life again- Hurrah!

Blogging Hiatus

This is not going to be a fun post.. For a number of reasons:

1) It involved Wicked Frills taking a bit of a breather
2) Miss JK is in hospital
3) I am not JK but rather Mr JR and hence not nearly half as witty, charming or cute

I'm writing on behalf of my beautiful fiancée who, you may or may not have noticed, has been absent from blogland for the past number of weeks now. First there was swine flu, then a nasty chest infection and now... theres the small issue of a little shadow on her right lung which neither we or medical proffessionals are quite sure what it is. Nor do we know how serious it is =(

But it is safe to say she is in good hands and even though she'll never admit it, is quite enjoying being fussed over and spoiled rotten by practically everyone... And *hopefully* she'll be right as rain and back to you all again soon

Evening m'dears! Yes I am back. And not with good news I'm afraid :(

You see, Miss JK has somehow(despite rigorous handwashing to an almost obsessive compulsive level) managed to contract the much dreaded Swine Flu aka H1N1 Flu, to give its full title. I am feeling horrifically sick at the moment: stuffy head, headache, bone ache, temperature and a nose thats both runny and blocked all at the same time. Very frustrating. So I've spent the past 3 days either in bed or moping about the house. I haven't dresses properly or showered for any of those 3 days either. Ick, I know.

So lets not dwell on that!! The only good thing about it is now I have time to blog :) Yay! I've missed the thrill of discovering new followers with awesome blogs and email notifications of new comments.

And I've found lots of pretty things! :) Only todays the first day I've been well enough to sit down and share it all:

I've become a bit of a sucker for trawing PreOwnedWeddingDresses. I like being able to see how dresses really look on real brides. Its all very well having a 6ft model wearing it but what about the 5ft 2in munchkin who has to wear it?? Trust me when I say, more often than not, they look BETTER on real brides!!

Its filled to the brim with bargainous deals on the likes of Vera Wang, Monique Lhuillier, etc, etc but it also has a a tiny Vintage section which occasionally throws up some real gems:

Such as this original 1950s Ballgown for $450. The pics aren't great quality but wowee what a stunner this one is. Peking lace on the bodice plus a satin ribbon at the waist

And this gorgeous 2 piece Lace and Satin dress which to me looks to be 1920s/30s in design although I'm not sure. The owner lists it as 1950s-1970s. Either way it is beautiful! $695: an absolute steal!

Just look at the lace detail- so pretty!

Well thats all from me today! My nurse(Mr JR!) is insisting that its time I go back to bed and stop trying to give the laptop swine flu with my incessant sneezing/coughing/general spluttering all over it :)

Evening lovelies!!

And today I wore sweat pants for the time in years for purposes other than going to the gym/walking/running, etc... Ewwww, I know
Did I mention Mr JR is super busy doing the first draft of his PhD paper... Yep so not only is it me, we're both giant balls of cranky at the moment! :(

Wow, I've been away for quite a while!!!

Unfortunately I've been horrendously busy because, alas, I am now in my last week of holidays before I return to university :(

In a way I'm happy to be going back but then again, the thoughts of weeks on end of reading, writing essays and then of course, the dreaded exams which with it being my final year theres going to be lots of them, fills me with terror. And to be quite honest after 3 blissful(albeit awful weather and work wise) months I'm loathe to go back... Booo hiss

''Yes Dear''- A Love Less Ordinary

Happy Monday everyone! Hope you all had a terrific weekend :)

24th August... Hmmmm, I'm going to let you all in on a little secret: Today's date is one of the two dates we've decided on for the wedding. Its not officially chosen yet although it is probably our preferred date at the moment. What year is, as yet, still undecided! But yes: 24th August is a very, very important for us :)

So in honour of this momentous(in my head!) occasion I'm going to share a truly inspiring little story, sure to warm the cockles of your heart...

This story begins on 1st June 1925 at All Saints Church, Hereford, England when Percy Arrowsmith married his wife, Florence, a Sunday school teacher. 3 years after they married they moved into a little terraced house where they remained for the rest of their lives. They had three children, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren by the time they had both passed away.
Whats could possibly be so extraordinary about this, you ask??

Florence and Percy Arrowsmith were married for 80 years. 80 Years. Thats 8 decades, 80% of a full century, four scores or however you'd like to put it.

On June 1st 2005, they celebrated 80 years of marriage, a feat recognised by Guinness World Records as the longest marriage by a living couple. They also had the oldest combined age of any married couple of 205 years 292 days- Percy at 105 and Florence aged 100.

And for those 80 years, they were together and happy in their marriage. As the Guardian correctly observes, when they married Stanley Baldwin was prime minister of Great Britain and a then little know Austrian by the name of Adolf Hitler had just finished writing Mein Kamfp. The world of change they witnessed it unimaginable to the likes of you and me and though times were tough, their unfailing commitment to each other and their family saw them through. Percy Arrowsmith joked on the occasion that the lenght and success of their marriage was attributed to his use of the phrase 'Yes Dear'

Unfortunately just two weeks later, when Percy Arrowsmith passed away followed by his beloved wife almost two years later in April 2007. But of course, love is everlasting...

And what better way to pay tribute to such an inspiring couple than some vintage inspired accessories carrying the wishes of all the same love, luck, health and happiness that day shared. Uh oh... You really didn't think I was going to do a post without some serious eye candy, did you?? :)

Full time and fully functioning internet! My delight on Thursday evening at my interwebs return return was short lived I'm afraid... Indeed no sooner had my triumphant post, proclaiming my arrival back into blogland had been published, it jacked it in again.

My lovely fiancé has just treated me to a facial- yes he his wonderful :) I love having facials.. I think its the feeling of having the hell scrubbed out of your skin and then afterwards it being as soft as a baby's bottom... With nappy rash!!!

Fabulous Fifty

Afternoon fellow bloggers! Its Wednesday and I have absolutely nothing of substance to write except: I'VE MADE IT TO 50 POSTS!!! Hurrah! :)

This an achievement for a number reasons: I normally have the attention span of a goldfish and can procrastinate like no other. In fact, when I first started this blog I was convinced, no matter how hard I tried, that I would probably get bored of it after about a month. Dear Rude but Wonderfully Vintage Dressed Lady in Vintage Shop Today,

I do enjoy my trips to your shop- it is simply a feast for the senses. You do have a rather fabulous array of vintage items all of which I would love to own. However, your customer service and snobby attitude is rather irritating and leaves quite a lot to be desired.

Please do not assume that just because I am not dresses head-to-toe in vintage fashions with immaculate victory rolls in my hair that I do not anything about vintage clothing. Please do not proceed to give me a history lesson of each and every item I pick up and most definitely do not use that school marmish tone you seem to be accustomed to. And, for the love of God, PLEASE do not persist in looking at me with disdain because I'm not(currently) looking like something straight out of World War II.

I was having an 'off' day today where I didn't feel like putting in the effort. So if I want to spend the day walking around in my €10 Tesco jeans and Rolling Stones t-shirt(which btw is actually an original vintage t-shirt from the 70s so Ha! In your face), I will. Tomorrow I will don my fifties stockings and skirts and do my hair properly but you won't know that. Because, in future, I'm going to insist on only ever entering your shop while wearing 'modern monstrosities' as you so affectionately call them.

Funky Kitchen Fever

Evening all! Hope you're having the same glorious weather we have here

Todays big news: I've decided I want to brighten up our kitchen! Yes really. This is the best I can come up with today :))
We only have a rented apartment at the moment so there isn't really much we can do with it... Unless we add some funky new accessories obviously!
So I've spent the best part of today looking at kitchen things. I'm sorry if you happen to not be a big fan of home decor but I am! And kitchens are a particular favourite of mine I must admit :)

First thing, I love retro kitchen appliances. In fact I'm quite obsessed with them. It all stemmed from a shop display I saw once with the coolest mock retro kitchen...

I would love something like this: Big Chill retro stove by BarsandBooths in Pink Lemonade:

With matching refridgerator, of course. Although I'm not entirely sure how JR will feel about all the pink... I'll have to work on that :P It'll only cost you a whopping $2695... Time to get saving methinks

BarsandBooths also offer a a full range of other matching appliances such as microwaves, washing machines, toasters... So you can really pink it up! Or whatever colour happens to take your fancy. I'm also a big fan of the 'Beach Blue' or 'Jadite Green'.

And of course you'll need some fab kitsch accessories to go with your rockin' new kitchen and you can't go too far wrong with Cath Kidston, possibly the queen of gorgeous retro inspired patterns!

Most people I know don't get the idea of oilcloth. Several of my friends have told me it should be kept strictly for 'old lady kitchens'. Oh well... They're the ones who are gonna spend half their lives washing and ironing material table cloths!!

Right back to giving the blog some love!! Yesterdays non-inspiringness(is that even a word??) is now over :)

Weather here is excellent for a change! Although I did spot the slightest of trickle of leaves coming away from the trees... Autumn(or Fall as some of you may call it!) is officially upon us!

I love Autumn, but not for the weather. Seeing the leaves go and plants withering actually makes me quite sad but the gorgeous colours that come with it- warm browns, burnished oranges and my favourite, gorgeous greens- more than make up for it!
Autumnal colours make great fashion inspiration and this is what I love about it. Taking inspiration from the autumn foliage is a great way to add a touch of sass to any outfit all year round!

It would look adorable over this cute damask pattern dress $80 from Vintageous Its actually listed as a Summer dress but I think with the knitted capelet it would be perfect for skipping happily through the falling leaves... Or a Summer party. Whichever. Its cute all year round :)

This is the third post I've started today- the other two are sitting in my drafts folder until I find the inspiration to finish them off. Unfortunately, friends, I'm not feeling the 'blog love' today...

At varying points today I came up with great ideas for posts but am currently lacking the patience or interest to research, compile and type. Booo... This sucks :(

So I suppose a bit of eye candy might help??

JR obviously- just for being wonderful! And for putting up with my nutty ramblings and unfortunate shoe addiction. My family and friends also fall into this category

Vintage shops- I love a good trawl through bundles of stuff and delight at finding unusual things

Cake!! All kinds except fruit cake- it makes me gag

Dancing- with JR, with friends or just randomly on my own

Blogging- its kept me entertained almost the whole Summer! And will probably provide me with an outlet of endless procrastination when college starts again

Weddings! Like MrsEyeCanSee I have a considerable soft spot for all things wedding

Christmas, Halloween and the time in between- my favourite time of year!

Going to the Savoy cinema in Dublin- it has a proper old style red velvet curtain that draws back before the start of each movie

Going on random , last minute trips. No planning involved, no maps, nothing- just getting in the car and going

I love dogs and am dying to get one with JR- we both have our 'family' dogs already(Lasie & Alphie) but I'd love to get one thats just ours

Hope you're all still awake after that one... Does anyone else find itreally hard to do these lists?Or is it just me??

Theres no real instructions on how to pass this on so I'm giving it to everyone!!! I wanna see those lists :)

I've decided to do a post showcasing some of my favourited sellers on Etsy as I'm still convinced the majority of people don't love Etsy have as much as they should. There are so many great finds on Etsy, some of which I've blogged before, some of which I haven't. I love this vintage style postcard $2 by TheIronCurtainPress. Perfect gift for the man in your life ;-) They have a range of letterpress vintage inspired cards with details such as bicycles and boats for rockbottom prices..

Staying with the stationary theme for one moment is this uber cute and funky polk dot invitation set, which includes invitation, envelope, rsvp card and envelope, bellyband ribbon and tag, personalised envelope seal and a choice of either a map card or thank you card. Happy Feet!!

Remember this??

I love 'Happy Feet'!!! Yes, I am such a child :)

I love having happy feet even more though. Happy because I've managed to finally locate one of my favourite pairs of shoes that had been missing for quite some time!
See, when we moved into our new apartment a couple of months ago everything was packed away in boxes and then what with college and work and just being generally busy not every box was unpacked straightaway(I know, I know) and stuff just got generally thrown about and shoved anywhere there was space. I also have an annoying habit of putting things 'in a safe place' and then forgetting where said safe place is! And thus, the shoes got lost :(

But now they are very much found again... Hurray!

I actually found these shoes in a second-hand market somewhere in London and they cost me a grand total of.... £3.50! I'm pretty sure they're modern production but I do like to imagine them as having been worn to many a dancehall by some dashing young lady in times long past...

So how to celebrate the finding of the marvelous shoes?? By taking photos, of course!!

Hollywood Sparkle

Every girl needs a bit of sparkle in her life, right??

I've always been a huge fan of Newbridge Silverware for all occasions be it a fancy do or just plain everyday wear. Today I had the pleasure of visiting the Newbridge Silver 'Icons of Style' museum where they house items from all your old-time hollywood favourites including Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland and many more...

Amongst the awesome displays you'll find this dress worn by Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly in 'Breakfast at Tiffanys':

There are also several personal belongings of Marilyn Monroe including this polka dot parasol used in a 1949 photo shoot with her good friend Andre de Dienes:

This dress worn by Grace Kelly in 'High Society' is also on display. It was designed ny Helen Rose, the chief costumier of MGM who also designed her wedding gown for her marriage to Prince Rainier of Monaco in April 1956

Unfortunately it was a last minute decision to go and visit it so I didn't have a camera to take any pictures but nonetheless, it was an enjoyable experience to see so many items worn and used by some of the top style icons of the last century.

And in true Newbridge style they have a jewellery collection dubbed the 'Hollywood Collection' in tribute to and inspired by some true Hollywood greats:

This Art Deco style pendant(€100) which also doubles as a brooch, inspired by Marlene Dietrich, is a particular favourite of mine:

These earring(€120) are based on the exact design of a sapphire and diamond pair worn by Jean Harlow to a publicity photo shoot

'Diamonds are a girls best friend' so said Marilyn Monroe and how right she was! This bracelet isn't quite the real thing but just as pretty :)

Ooh... I've Always Wanted One ofThese!

I've just received my first blog award!! Thank you so much JP :)

JP has awarded me the Honest Scrap award. As the recipient of this highly sought after award I have to list 10 true things about me on my blog that nobody else knows and then I get to pass it on to 10 more fabulous bloggers!

So, 10 things... Hmmmm

1. I absolutely hate the taste of cheese but have an unhealthy obsession with cheese mongers and always have to stop and go in 'just for a look' even though I will never buy anything.

2. Both of my big toes are double jointed and I can make them stand completely vertical

3. I love putting sweets into Coca Cola just to see it fizz :)

4. I am a latch-hooking wizard! Seriously. I can do it with my eyes shut. So far, I've made several rugs and cushions and have built myself up a nice little collection.

5. I only ever wear lipstick and mascara during the daytime

6. I hate not having my nails painted and have over 20 bottles of nail polish in varying shades of red and pink! My current favourite is a hot bubblegum pink by Mavala called 'La Paz'

7. I never wear shoes indoors. Ever. Yet I have more pairs of shoes than I care to remember!

8. I have an unnatural obsession with stripy socks- especially ones that go above the knee!

9. Once after donating blood, I fainted and hit my head off a chair and had to be brought to A&E as I had managed to also knock myself unconscious. I spent the following week walking around with a massive bump and bruise on my head- the price for kindness eh?

10. I'm related to Hollywood actress Maureen O'Hara through my mother's side of the family and I always wanted to have hair just like hers!

Now the difficult part: choosing 10! You're all fantabulous but my 10 picks are:

Calling All Cinderellas!

Did you know that Disney do bridal wear?? ::gasp:: I know... How strange!!
Yes, in between making super children's movies they apparently also have a bridal line designed by Kirstie Kelly and inspired by your favourite Disney princesses :)

So what are you imagining at this point- lots of frills and unneccessary sparkle?? Skirts so big you'll need help getting through the doors of the Church?? Mile long trains complete with birds to help hoist it up??

Obviously it couldn't possibly be Disney Bridal without a few crimes agains frills but its not all bad... I was pleasantly surprised to find quite a few elegant fishtails and floaty feminine numbers thrown into the mix!

This one is from the 'Cinderella' collection: I think it would be adorable(and slightly less pouffy!) with a tea-lenght skirt:

And of course, a Cinderella dress requires glass slippers!! Well sort of... These swarovski crystal encrusted shoes(£650) by Gina should do the trick nicely

I was given this cocktail recipe, called the 'Cinderella' in a bar in Amsterdam a couple of years ago and its really yummy!

Cinderella Cocktail(Non alcoholic):

2oz Orange Juice
3oz Pineapple Juice
Scoop of plain yoghurt
Dash of Grenadine
Some pineapple chunks or orange slices to serve

Mix the whole lot in a blender and the serve chilled on the rocks!! It was recommended to me that if you want more of a 'kick' to it, add a measure of Malibu. Perfect drink for awaiting the arrival of Prince Charming! :)

I certainly am because for the first time in ages its actually sunny and warm here!!! Hurrah for good weather :)

Well this morning's trawl of my favourite vintage sites has been very productive indeed!!

I strongly suggest that anyone who has a penchant for beautiful head wear, locks away their credit cards in a very safe and very secure place before reading any further... :)

Who doesn't love a good hat??
I find that these days people don't wear hats much at all and what a shame it is! Theres a whole host of beautiful hats of all shapes and sizes to be found at vintage markets and stores- fedoras, berets, cloches, etc- just begging to be worn and given a chance to shine once more!

When browsing PoshGirlVintage I don't normally pay that much attention to the accessories section ::hangs head in shame:: and boy have I been missing out! These are a very small selection of the beautiful items to be found there:

Weekend Report! :)

Man, I am tired!!! Seriously.
I had a wonderful weekend- completely last minute and extremely random but enjoyable nonetheless!!!

Friday's date 'day' with JR was awesome! We went shopping and had the most delicious pizza(yumm!) Of course, I dragged him around every vintage shop I could think of! Lots of great stuff just nothing taking my fancy! Until we arrived in Powerscourt... Where I found a gorgeous handmade, vintage inspired hairband that blogger won't let me upload photos off!!!
Grrr... Some other time... Lets just say its really pretty!! :)
Then we went to see Harry Potter which I must admit, I was kinda disappointed with it :(
Overall it was a good day aside from the news about my nephew- thankfully he is doing much better now. He will be finished the Tamiflu today so things should start to improve rapidly soon. My sister and her husband and my other nephew have been sick but just not quite as bad... Still very scary though! Thank you for all the positive vibes :)

And now for the randomness...

Basically one of my friends decided on Friday morning that we needed a roadtrip! And for some strange reason we all agreed...It started with a 3 and a half hour drive from Dublin to Cork on Saturday morning followed by lots of aimless wandering around Cork City. It took us an absolute age to find the hostel. Yes, hostel. It was so last minute we couln't get hotels and besides, it ain't a proper roadtrip if theres no dodgy accomodation involved. We were pleasantly surprised though- it was actually very nice! Although it was on top of a really steep hill which was an absolute killer to try walk up in heels :)

We got dolled up(well the girls anyway!) and headed to a BBQ with some of our friends who live down down there and had lots of really yummy food!
Cork is actually a pretty good city to go out in- theres endless amounts of really good bars and nightclubs. Our total tally came to 3 bars and 1 nightclub followed by falling into bed at 3am :)

Sunday morning we had breakfast and it was time to hit the road again! This time we headed to Galway via a small stopover in Limerick for some food- another 3 and a half hour journey!! I love Galway- its probably one of my favourite parts of Ireland. I also love shopping in Galway :) Theres tonnes of really good shops! So we spent a few hours browsing and I came home with the cutest black, pink and purple pattern dress with button detail from New Look which I can't find on the website...

Sunday night involved more merriment ie dancing, drinking and eating!! 3 bars, 1 nightclub and a trip to a fast food restaurant on the way back to the hostel... Classy ;)

And so we arrived at yesterday morning and time bid adieu to our travels and weekend of general random craziness :)
Before we left we had time for a last minute dash around the shops where I found these shoes by Luxax:

Which I would have so bought only.... €250?? No thanks!! *Sniff* I still want them...

So that was my weekend- I swear I'm going into hibernation to recover... Haha

For those of you of the praying kind, I'm asking you to think of my 2 1/2 year old nephew who was diagnosed with swine flu yesterday, in your prayers for the next few days. The doctor has given him Tamiflu so hopefully that'll clear it up but a little help from above might be good too...

Art Deco Love

With her question from my Q&A post, Tammy from Tammy & Kareem's Day got me to thinking about the 1920s+ Art Deco period and how much I love it! So in a bit of a change to my normal retro fifties focus, for today's Wicked Frills I'm going to give some vintage loving to one of the most glam periods of history :)

Theres just something about it that makes me love it! I think its the use of shape and colour that draws me to it so much. One of the reasons I don't have an engagement ring yet is because I'm looking for the perfect, you guessed it, Art Deco style ring! I adore this ring from Berganza in Hatton Garden in London but alas, at £3800 its a tad bit over budget :(
Other than that its exactly what I'm looking for! The guidelines for my perfect engagement ring are as follows:
* Art Deco style preferably original but I'm willing to compromise :P

* Gosh now thats a toughie! Theres sooooo many things :) Date nights though are prob my favourite... That can mean either a night in or a night on the town. We're having one tomorrow actually- going to see Harry Potter!! Yippeee... I'm so excited!

* A touch of lipgloss or lipstick... I generally dont wear make-up during the day but I'd feel bare without my lips done!

Out With The Old Warning: Rant Ahead

Well today has been somewhat of a rollercoaster... And not for good reasons :(

Bit of background: I normally work part-time in a shop(belonging to a well known chain who shall remain nameless) which happens to be managed by my mother. That creeps some people out- not me though. I actually quite like it! We have a group of regular customers that we know very well and have good times with. There are two other full-time staff memebers.

What happened today: We all got SACKED. Every last one of us.

Well really it was done in phases: Colleague A was sacked last night. Colleague B arrived at work today, set up and opened shop and then was paid a visit by one of the area managers who proceeded to sack her also.

Then rang my mother to come in where she was pretty much given the boot also. I haven't officially been sacked but a) I'm only part-time and b) they sacked my mother for no good reason so obviously I don't care if they still want me there. I won't work although they probably don't want me there anyway but can't be bothered telling me properly because I'm only a part-timer.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrggggghhhh I AM SO MAD!!!

Ok so they did give reasons(which none of us believe) for sacking my colleagues but have thus far have yet to produce a full explanation of what exactly the issue is or proof that its even true. My mother has yet to receive an explanation.
And its really, really, really grating me. Not so much the sacking itself but the way it was handled and the way they(my mother, A, B) were treated.

Employers can be so nasty sometimes.

Rant over. On to the happiness!

Through The Looking Glass

One of my favourite childhood stories: Through the Looking Glass and of course, its predecessor, Alice in Wonderland.

I love that rhyme, not entirely sure why but I do! And for some strange reason I can still recite all three verses word for word :)

Rockin' the Jackie O

Wasn't she just fabulous?? Keira Knighly, Sienna Miller et al take note: Thats what a real style icon loks like :)

Tonight the future husband and I were invited to an uber posh do with some people he worked with throughout the elections- Cue panic over what to wear without looking like either a) a granny or b) an overdressed tart
So of course I went for an instant classic and probably the favourite dress I own a.k.a the Jackie O dress.

Well thats what I like to call it even though technically its probably more of an Audrey...

Anyhoooo here are some pics of my much beloved 'Jackie O' Dress taken shortly before we left, complete with de rigeur Jackie O sunglasses... And pearls! You gotta have pearls :)

Other Bits of Happiness!

Following on from the Happy Tagging games I thought I'd share some more happiness with you guys! Starting with my birthday which was yesterday :)

I had a pretty good day: work for a few hours followed by a lovely lunch with the future husband followed by *squeeeeeeeeeeel* engagement ring shopping(No I don't have one- yet! More of this later). Still no ring but we actively went looking- thats gotta be a start!!

In the evening we went to the cinema to see 'The Hangover'- not great but we were in the mood to watch something silly(and really inappropriate!) so it was perfect. And I had Pick'n'Mix- a great big bag of the stuff!! I can feel my teeth rotting as I type :) Lol

My parents had been in London visiting my sister for the past few days and arrived home late last night and presented me with this:

Charms make me very happy indeed! And this one is perfect :) It has pearls and a super cute Tinkerbelle- I am in love :)

* Good books also make me incredibly happy. I love being able to sit in a quiet place for hours just reading! I've just finished this one here and it is thoroughly recommended. If you haven't already read it then I highly recommend you do. Great stuff!

* Blogging makes me incredibly happy! I've had about 5-6 blogs before and I've never managed to keep them going for longer than about a week! :) So I'm insanely proud of how far I've managed with this one :)

*Gorgeous dresses make me very happy! Especially the buying of gorgeous dresses ;-) Ones like this which will set you back $529 from PoshGirlVintage

* I love Christmas and that time of year never fails to make me happy! Could be something to do with the vast amounts of chocolate, bright lights and glittery things :)

* Vintage, vintage, vintage- Can't get enough of it! It makes me trés happy indeed. I love scouring the internet and quirky little shops for vintage items. My two favourite vintage shops in the whole world are:

Weddings Are My New Drug Of Choice: Its Official

Not that I ever had one before this(except my asthma inhaler) but its true, they really are. I just can't get enough of them :)
I've joined about a million wedding websites- some great, some not so great. Project Wedding is my fave so far: mostly for the tonnes of amazing pics and ideas! that sight has some seriously hardcore wedding porn :)
Instead of just dresses and shoes, I've now 'branched out' to include flowers, bridesmaids, decorations, stationary etc, etc You can see where this is going... ;-)

Meanwhile, back to the dresses!!! With the help of a tip given to me by another very nice bride on one of the websites I frequent, I've discovered a designer by the name of Maureen Myring Kesterton
One word: Amazing!!!

This cutie is oh so appropriately named 'Tinkerbelle'

And it is also available in this wicked shade of plummy purple- love it!

And shock horror: I even managed to find a full lenght dress that I actually like. I kid you not:

But of course, my favourite is a swishy tea lenght number!!! Its short, it has a swingy skirt, it has lace, it has sparkle: I'm in LOVE!

Not too hot on the dodgy poodle hair though I must admit and lose the sandals! This baby needs some cute round or peep toes :)

Hair Dos & Make Dos

Today I had one of those days where you wake up and think 'I'm going to do something different today!'

Wich resulted in me having my hair cut waaaay shorter than its been for a long time... And I like it! :) Yay for drastic decisions!

Meanwhile I have a party(YAY!) to go to on Friday night for which I have loads to wear and at the same time nothing to wear. Its a sort of 'I have load of clothes but don't want to wear any of them' situation. But due to lack of funds it could potentially mean 'making do', as my mother would say, with something I already have which I don't want to do.

Because I'm so fussy. Meh! Methinks a shopping trip is in order :)

Back Again!!!

Well I'm back! Blackpool was an absolute blast- I love that place soooo much!! Its so kitsch and funky. Great time was had by all :)

Didn't take too many photos but have a couple of nice ones from yesterday when the weather was better. On Wednesday it absolutely bucketed down with rain! Still though... It meant we could spend copious amounts of time on the slot machines :)

Heres a few pics while I hunt some pretty things to post. Amazingly I managed to not buy a single item of clothing or any shoes so can't post anything like that :(

Yesterday we went to Sea Life to pass an hour or two. I wasn't that keen on the idea initially but I was pleasantly surprised!

This is my favourite pic of them all- I'm quite proud of it!! Its a Royal Tang fish(I think!) and they are the most beautiful shade of blue. But they dart around so quickly its almost impossible to get a picture of one! But I managed it :)

I love Crabs!!! Probably because I'm a Cancerian :) This guy was practically posing for photos

The infamous Ferris Wheel- I respect anyone who gets up on one of these things. I'm such a scaredy cat- I haaaaate heights!!

And lastly the lovely Blackpool Tower! We would have went up it only for two things: I hate heights and its £12 to get in! £12!!! Its nice and all but... Its not that nice! It does however photograph well :)

Vintage Florals

I LOVE vintage patterns especially floral ones and would happily have them absolutely everywhere if only JR would let me.

I get the old 'My granny had curtains/cushions/chairs(insert upholstered item here) like that once...' act whenever I buy anything with a beautiful vintage pattern on it. He even passed comment on the lovely Cath Kidson pink polka dot tissues I bought for €1(bargain!).

Although he does have a point given that I now refuse to use them to blow my nose or for any other purpose because, well, they're far too pretty for that :)

So back to my love of vintage florals! I'm very happy to see that they are once again gracing the floors of many shops again in various forms.

These are what I've found:

Sage and pink floral dress babydoll dress £50(was £70) from Debenhams. I love babydoll dresses because they're so flattering and very forgiving when you happen to having a 'fat day'

I love the colours on this! The shape is gorgeous and that little bow belt is adorable :)

£24.50 by Red Herring at Debenhams, reduced from £35.

Another really wicked bright pattern! This is more tropical vintage floral which I love
£50 by John Rocha at Debenhams

This is my absolute favourite pattern of all!! Of course it would also happen to be the most expensive at £85 from Monsoon but I love, love, love this kind of vintage floral!!!
And the dress itself is gorgeous- very 1940s tea party! Love it! :)

Still Not Over Yet...

For years Ireland has been cursed with painfully slow election counts and this year seems to be no different!! 3 days after voting has finished and they're still counting...

Meaning the significant other is still missing in action!! :(

In better news, I'm off to Blackpool tomorrow morning with my mother and sister to see my crazy grandaunt!! I love her to bits but shes a wee bit nuts :)
Although my sis is trying to talk me into going up Blackpool tower with her which due to my crippling fear of heights may be a bit of a problem...

I'm searching for something nice to post- very nearly bought a pair of vintage-ish gold shoes the other day but just couldn't make up my mind!

Mini rant post #2 today:

The significant other is currently working on his PhD and has just began his one of his three(!) research papers which are all about elections... more or less! So with it being election time in Ireland and all across Europe he is very busy at the moment.

His PhD work+My work= No time together!! :(
I miss my JR... I'm like a cupcake with no sprinkles... Booooooooooooooooooooo!!!!
Ok rant over. Meanwhile...

I've been introduced, by a super wedding obsessed friend of mine, to Dolly Couture!

A truly bargainous $520! Although apparently all the dresses are actually made in a factory in Vietnam which ethically(depending on factory conditions), I may or may not have a slight problem with...

Ok, so I have had the most horrendously long and stressful day at work.
Cooped up all day in a teensy office and missing out on the glorious sunshine = not cool!

Right heres what REALLY happened!!!

One night we were in McDonalds(!) with a few friends and just chatting away about this, that and the other. Somehow we got o to the topic of settling down and stuff like that. JR chips in that ideally he'd like to be married before the age of 30...
To which I reply 'Jaypers!!' (I'll explain about the jaypers some other time!)

Place goes quiet while the smarmy git with that cheeky grin he does, turns around to me and says:
'Well if nobody else comes along, theres always you!!!'

Cheeky f!*&%r!!!!

Walking back to the bus, like the penniless students we are, JR gets all serious with that infamous 'I was actually being serious' line... Et voilá!! Engaged.

Thats it. Thats everything that happened. Nothing else.

*No fancy dinners
*No trips to Paris
*No romantic walks through twinkly lit streets or any other 'romantic' gestures...

Just two broke students deciding they want to get married!!

End of story. Romantic eh??

The Proposal

So here it is in all its glory...

One evening we went for dinner at a beautiful restaurant as a treat before my exams started. We spent the evening chatting and eating and laughing and just generally having a bloody good time!

Afterwards we went for a romantic walk through the streets of Dublin which looked all twinkly and sparkly in that enchanted Spring darkness of late April... Hand in hand we wandered around aimlessly, the love and devotion I felt for JR at tha moment was second to none. We stopped on O'Connell bridge to take in the sight of the lit up buildings reflecting in the River Liffey... Breath taking

Then JR turned to me and said 'I have a surprise for you'... He presented me with an envelope and in the envelope was a plane ticket, leaving the next day... For Paris!!

So home we went to pack our bags for Paris!! Less than 24 hours laters I was standing with my love on banks of the River Seine staring at the beautiful Paris skyline- beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!!

We wined and dined in a chic bistro that night and afterwards on our way back to the hotel, we stopped. In the shadow of the Eiffel Tower, JR got down on one knee and asked me that one question every girl dreams about: 'Will you be my wife?'
It was prefect! With tears streaming down my face I joyfully accepted and we returned to the hotel to begin the phone calls spreading the good news...

Gosh, I feel quite emotional now!

Actually there is news: I'm ENGAGED!!!!! Somebody actually wants to marry me- shocking I know!
So now you know the direction this blog is going to take. Roll on all things wedding :)

Yes, himself finally gave in to pressure and popped the question in the most unromantic fashion the universe has ever seen. I will dedicate another post to this very soon...

Customary Introduction Thingy

Right, well seeing as I haven't figured out my reasons for being here yet, I'll start with a brief introduction.
As the username suggests my name is JK(yes as in JK Rowling). But not really......

I refuse to publish my actual name in cyberspace. Stories about cyber stalkers combined with the fear of somebody I know reading this and knowing its me have put me off using my real name. Yes, I am aware that that is rather sad.

I live in Dublin and am currently attending UCD( thats University College Dublin for you non- Irish folk: I suspect that refers to most of the bloggers and/or visitors to this site.) to study English which is both a blessing and a curse i.e I develop a huge vocabulary of long, unusual and often hilarious words but it involves writing disgustingly smug- sounding academic essays.

Yes, I have a family. You may or may not be surprised to learn that I also have friends.

I'm not really sure where this entry is going. It seemed like a good idea at the time and I'm loathe to hit 'delete'.
I promise it will end soon.

Hmmmm... dresses. I like them a lot- especially great big frilly ones! I will probably devote much of my time here to that subject :)

I would like to warn you of some of my bad habits before I do end: I have a nasty tendency to gravitate towards being over- sarcastic and often at really inappropriate times about really inappropriate things. I also swear quite a bit although I don't really think that qualifies as a bad habit in blogland. I'm sure if I read through more blogs I'll discover alot more swearing than I could ever manage.

Right, thats it. I'm outta here. I will follow with a more in- depth description of what I'm about and why I'm here. Thats presuming I figure it out at all.....
